AFRICA, OUR MOTHERLAND, Composed by Peris N. Wamutitu

Africa, tell me,
are you a sleeping giant, or a sleeping jungle?
 Its very confusing, because everywhere,
I look, in your vast lands,
I see only, jungle like characteristics.
Or maybe, it’s a giant,
sleeping, in the jungle?
that would probably, begin to make some sense.
What is the use, of rich yet retrogressive cultures?
Its ironical, a complete paradox.
Rich yet retrogressive, don’t seem compatible.
Rough, inaccessible roads,
others only, seasonally accessible,
rampant poverty, and housing,
senseless wars, and coups,
in some, of your lands,
nonexistent, governments,
poor, medical facilities,
high mother,and infant mortalities,
the list, is endless.
I can see you, helplessly stretching,
your weak, shaky hand to the west,
for assistance, every now and then,
sometimes lacking, something to quench,
your burning throat,and to quell,
your rumbling tummy,
its beyond comprehension,
seeing that, your vast lands,
hold the worlds, most precious resources,
oil, gold silver, bronze and many more,
but you have never, learned how to manage,
your resources, for the benefit,
of your people, and why?
a question, with a very simple answer,
greed, greed, greed, and more greed,
leading to corruption, and poor decision making,
 Now, its about time,
the giant, woke up,
and transformed, this jungle,
 into a beautiful,and bountiful land,
retract, the weak hand,
and be strong enough ,to stand up,
and give your people, the best,
that you can offer, since you are,
capable of offering, the best,
and be, independent,
and free, from the ravages of hunger ,
disease, poverty,
and the endless, list aforementioned.
Great mother land, prove your greatness,
 and stop, the mass exodus,
of your people, seeking a better life,
in the west,you are capable,
of standing tall, and beating all odds,
we believe in you, oh great motherland,
we love you, and there we want to remain.
Arise from your slumber, oh great giant,
and let your greatness, be a reality,
 felt by young, and old,
let your vast lands, regain their lost glory.
Never again, will you be,
a sleeping giant, but a vibrant one.
Long live Africa, Long live our mother land.
